So I recently got thinking back on how I have changed and settled into the job since I started 8 months ago. 8 months ago I was nervous to be within arms distance from any inmate and stepping into the pod felt like stepping onto their land. Now I have no problem speaking to inmates or having them close to me in tight areas and walking into the pod still feels like my turf, I've even been locked in a pod with inmates on accident. I went from low man on the pole and having the worst days off to having 4 other people below me and getting awesome days off. I have worked toward a special assignment on the booking floor and was chosen to fill the open slot.
I have to say that things have changed a lot since I first started the job. The idea of performing a strip search on someone was appalling and since has turned into something routine. The booking process which used to take me a half hour now takes all of 15 minutes provided they don't have a bag with everything including the kitchen sink (or filled with complimentary items from a hotel). I absolutely have to say without a doubt that of all the jobs I have ever had I LOVE this one the most. Every day is something new and different. The only thing I would give this up for is for a patrol car and a job on the streets.
